Although it would be quite a task, there is definitely a need for someone to put time into assessing the many customs software systems offered by different providers, which would include the breadth of their provision into general supply-chain. It’s only when you start to talk directly to each supplier are you able to establish what they don’t offer, which in some cases can be severely restrictive. Of course, the right questions have to be consistently asked in order to establish this, so I do wonder how many enter contracts only to find a system is not such a suitable ‘fit’ as first thought. The last thing a customs or logistics provider needs however is to transition from one system to another while operating, unless a new system is going to clearly offer major benefits, making the inevitable pain of transition worth while.
